This position is responsible for management, development, and consistent implementation of safety, health and environmental systems for the agency, with a focus on managing risk to preserve limited resources of all department facilities, field services offices, and offender work crews. In addition, the department's environmental compliance activities, green energy, recycling, and waste reduction are within the scope of this position. The director is responsible for supervising the facility safety administrators and directing strategies that help lead to a safe and healthful environment for employees, offenders, and visitors. The director also serves as liaison with state regulatory agencies and advises the commissioner and his executive team, institution heads, and other department managers on policy matters, cost-saving measures, and system improvements related to safety, environmental and occupational health.
