The department works with interested  communities assisting them in development of a restorative justice approach to community safety.  Restorative justice is a framework which involves victims and community more broadly in the criminal justice system.  In addition to offender accountability through taking responsibility and making amends, restorative justice seeks to address victim needs, offender competencies, and community responsibility in repairing the

harm done by crime.
